Upcoming Humanitarian Crisis In Nepal

Nepal is on the verge of an all out humanitarian crisis. Monsoon is only a week away, and hundreds of villages are at risk of being cut off when the roads wash away, or worse, being swept down the mountain with a landslide. I’ve personally witnessed thousands of landslides in Nepal already, and there is a LOT of scarred mountainside that will spur even more landslides in the weeks to come.
Monsoon will also severely affect the 4 million people (i need to check that number) who lost their homes in the earthquake and are living in temporary shelters. They’re sleeping under plastic tarps, or makeshift shelters with rubble from their damaged houses. It’s going to be extremely difficult to respond to these challenges because accessibility will be poor — by road and by air.
I have hundreds of photos and dozens of videos from when I was the embedded journalist on an Indian Air Force Mi-17 helicopter to Gorkha and Dhading. This is a video from Singla, Gorkha. It’s a short video, but there’s a lot to gather from it.

Disclosure: I posted a rough draft of this on Facebook a few days ago, and just realized it would make a nice little easy-to-digest blog post too.
